iMac available now; MacBook Pro to come in February...
Apple surprised many yesterday by launching the first Macintosh computers powered by Intel processors. The new iMac and the MacBook Pro come with Intel Core Duo, a dual processor chip.
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, stated that the new iMac was twice as its predecessor, the iMac G5. The new MacBook Pro is Apple's new high end laptop and has the same shape and design as the PowerBook G4. However the Intel chip means it is 4-5 times faster than its predecessor.
The MacBook Pro also includes a new Magsafe technology, which connects the power adapter using magnets. This means that if you trip over your power cable when its plugged in, the connector falls free and doesn't pull your laptop to the floor!
All new Macs also ship with the new iLife 06 package, which includes updates to the iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and GarageBand applications, plus a new website creation tool, called iWeb.
The new iMac is available at the Irish Apple Store and retail stores such as CompuB now, and the MacBook Pro ships in February. For more information see the Mac Guide.
