iPhone visual voicemail in Ireland- unlikely

O2 Ireland have no firm plans yet...
We contacted O2 Ireland this week to see when visual voicemail would be introduced on their network. However we received the following statement:
"Unfortunately the visual voicemail is not supported by the network here as yet. We will be looking closely at developing it if its something our customers tell us they want."
What surprises us most is that visual voicemail is one of the key features of the iPhone, and was included in the commercials in the US when the phone was launch in 2007. Our assumption had always been that since O2 Ireland launched the iPhone without this feature in March 2008, it was on its way and would certainly be introduced in time of the new iPhone 3G, which is due on July 11th.
However this "wait and see" attitude makes us question Apple's decision to give the iPhone to O2 Ireland- was visual voicemail not one of the conditions of the deal? Surely O2 knew that this would have to come at some point, and from day one would have worked to introduce this as soon as possible? Ireland is the only iPhone carrier without visual voicemail, and given the O2 response, this looks unlikely to change any time soon.
More details are available from Apple Store for Ireland or the Apple Store for the UK and you can check out our iPhone page here. O2 Ireland also have an iPhone page.
