Apple announces updated iBooks and Mac minis

Faster Macs to kick off the education buying season

Apple have updated their iBooks and Mac minis, with the laptop line now coming with built-in Bluetooth. The range has now been reduced to just two products.
The 12" iBook starts at €1059 and comes with a combo drive (burns/plays CDs, plays DVDs), comes with a 1.33 Ghz chip, 512MB of RAM and a 40GB hard drive.
The larger 14" iBook costs €1368.99, comes with a SuperDrive (burns/plays CDs, burns/plays DVDs), comes with a faster 1.42 Ghz processor, 512MB of RAM and a larger 60GB hard drive.
The iBooks incorporate the new Motion sensor technology, which helps to prevent data loss if the laptop is dropped. They also comes a the new sensor technology, where the user can scroll through pages by using the trackpad.
The new updated Mac mini now come in three varieties.
The entry level Mac mini comes with a 1.25 Ghz G4 processor and a combo drive (burns/plays CDs, plays DVDs). Bluetooth and Airport are optional and it comes with a 40GB hard drive and 512 MB of RAM. However this entry level mini is the only one with a built in modem. Given the advance in Broadband services, Apple have made the 56kbps modem optional in other minis.
The middle of the range mini comes with a 1.42 Ghz G4 processor and a combo drive (burns/plays CDs, plays DVDs). Bluetooth and Airport are included as standard and it comes with a 80GB hard drive and 512 MB of RAM.
The top level Mac mini also comes with a 1.42 Ghz G4 processor, but includes a SuperDrive (burns/plays CDs, burns/plays DVDs). Bluetooth and Airport are included and it comes with a 80GB hard drive and 512 MB of RAM.
All models are currently available at the online Apple Store for Ireland (the Education Store for Students and teachers has all three models at special prices. See also the Mac Information Guide to Education).
