Mac Info Highlights of 2007

What we liked in the past year...
5/ AppleTV: it hasn't been the headline act of 2007, but the Apple TV is just a good, useful machine. We have our music streaming across the network using Airport wireless, and like watching the photos, TV shows and movies from any of our networked Macs. Apple TV brings our Macs together and in a usable and fun way. The interface is great, and watching a streamed movieworks flawlessly. Now if only we could download a great selection of movies directly from the iTunes Store...
4/ iLife '08: two reasons for this. One is the web gallery feature in iPhoto, where you can very simply upload images from iPhoto to your .Mac account. We like this feature and use it frequently. We also like the events feature in iPhoto. iWeb has also warmed up as time has gone on. We didn't like the first iteration, but the latest version has encouraged us to use it many times, and it is the best way to produce a simple and colourful website. We just wish we could "publish" to a site other than our .Mac webspace.
3/ Leopard: Leopard is a mixed bag, but for us it is great. Because of what we work on day in day out, Leopard has made things so much easier. Back to Mac is excellent. Being able to connect back to the Mac in our offices and pick up files is wonderful. Screen sharing has helped out on many occasions, whether trying to change a client's settings, or getting one of our remote Macs to begin rendering a movie before we head back to the office. So much time has been saved by this one feature. We also love Quicklook; a stunningly simple idea- hitting the space bar for a preview of a document. Genius.
2/ We are really taken by the new iPod nano. It looks a little wide compared to its predecessor, but when you see video on it and hold on in your hand, you see how good this little gem is. Its battery life, interface and cost all add up to great value package.
1/ the iPhone: any new technology which changes the way we work deserves to be a highlight, and the iPhone has transformed the way we use the internet and carry our contact information. Finally a phone which syncs with our Mac seamlessly, that is a joy to use, and allows real phone web browsing (including online banking), deserves our top marks.
