MacBook Air

macbook-air-2014

Introduction:
The MacBook Air was introduced in January 2008, most recently updated in early 2014. It’s a light and ultra portable Mac laptop. It does not come with a DVD or CD drive and relies on wireless technology (Wi-Fi/bluetooth) for connecting to the internet and other computers. The main plus for the MacBook Air is its weight and size. The lightest model is 1 kg, and is the thinnest laptop on the market. It comes with either an 11.6” or 13.3” glossy display, full-size keyboard, and Bluetooth for connecting a wireless mouse or keyboard. They are great laptops for people on the road who are making presentations.

The most recent MacBook Airs have great battery life- up to 12 hours on a 13” model.

Here is a run down of its features:
  • USB (two sockets for printers, cameras, scanners, iPhone etc.)
    • Thunderbolt port for hard drives, and for connecting display with adapter
    • audio out socket for headphones
    • Multi-touch trackpad for "gestures" such as swipe and pinch (as with the iPhone or iPod touch)
    • Also includes a MagSafe 2 power adapter
  • SD card on 13” models
Note: you can buy an external SuperDrive (DVD/CD player and burner) for a MacBook Air (connects to USB port). However they also come with software called "Remote Disc", which allows the Air to wirelessly use a CD/DVD drive on another Mac or PC nearby. This is useful for installing software or loading music into iTunes from disc.
